About the Film

Goodbye Julia (2023), directed by Mohamed Kordofani, tells the stirring story of two women—one from northern Sudan, the other from the south—whose lives become entwined in the tense years before Sudan’s historic split in 2011.
A tale of guilt, forgiveness, and fragile connection, the film became the first Sudanese feature to screen at Cannes, where it won the Freedom Prize.

Why This Matters

Presented by Africa Film Fest Australia in collaboration with the City of Sydney and community partners, this event marks Refugee Week with a focus on storytelling as a tool for healing, connection, and change.
This is more than a screening—it’s a space for solidarity, dialogue, and cultural celebration.
