Across the workshop, participants discovered career pathways in hair, make-up and special effects for screen and media, watched a live SFX and character transformation demonstration, and explored how prosthetics and character make-up help bring stories to life.

The session also looked at working with curly and textured hair, diverse skin tones and cultural awareness in professional hair and make-up. Participants had the chance to interpret an industry-style creative brief, design their own character face chart, and meet NIDA tutors and students to ask questions about studying and working in the industry.

About the Diploma

NIDA’s Diploma of Screen and Media (Specialist Make-up Services) is an intensive, practical one-year course covering hair and make-up for theatre, film, fashion and advertising, alongside wig styling, special effects and prosthetics.

Students work across a range of skin tones and hair types, develop their portfolios and gain hands-on experience through NIDA productions and industry collaboration. Classes are led by practising professionals, with opportunities to visit working industry venues and showcase work to industry practitioners and producers.
