FOUNDATION FIRST: Inclusive Hair & Makeup Essentials was delivered by ACE Parramatta in partnership with National Institute of Dramatic Art.

Across eight workshops held between April 7–18, participants developed essential, inclusive hair and makeup skills for screen, with a focus on working confidently with diverse skin tones and textured hair. Guided by industry experts, the program combined foundational knowledge with hands-on training to create culturally responsive, screen-ready looks.

Designed for emerging and early-career artists from culturally diverse communities in Western Sydney, the program also welcomed working artists looking to expand their inclusive practice and professional skills.

Event Details

When:

  • Week 1 – April 7-10
  • Week 2 – April 13-16
  • Industry showcase – April 18

Where: Arts & Cultural Exchange, 8 Victoria Rd Parramatta

 

 

Participants will:
  • Develop foundational and inclusive hair and makeup frameworks for their screen practice
  • Work from scripted character briefs to design and execute screen-ready looks
  • Create considered character designs across diverse skin tones, hair types and lived experiences
  • Produce high-quality, portfolio-ready images
  • Present work at an industry showcase hosted in partnership with NIDA
Who can apply:
  • Emerging and early-career hair and makeup artists
  • Hair and makeup artists seeking to deepen their inclusive practice and broaden their professional toolkit.
  • Emerging hair and makeup artists based in Western Sydney from CALD and intersectional backgrounds are highly encouraged to apply
