My Name Is Gucci: A Dog’s Story by Sun Jung follows the life of Gucci, a dog whose perspective offers a hilarious and tender lens on the humans around them. After five years in a Singapore dog shelter, Gucci is finally adopted and moves to inner-city Sydney, only to face an anti-dog war in her new apartment block that threatens her adopter’s safety and dredges up painful childhood memories.
Alternating between Gucci’s sharp, witty perspective and the inner world of her human companion, the novel explores themes of love, loyalty, identity, and the unexpected bonds that shape both human and animal experience.
Brimming with warmth, wit, and wisdom, Sun Jung’s storytelling blends humor, heart, and insight into a narrative that is both laugh-out-loud funny and quietly moving, offering readers a unique perspective on life, relationships, connections, and the little things that make it meaningful.
