A Western Sydney Book Club – October 2026

October 30, 2026 6:30 pm — Tickets FREE
Arts & Cultural Exchange (ACE)

This October, join us for A Western Sydney Book Club as Amani Haydar leads a conversation on Rebirth, the debut non-fiction work by Lebanese-Australian journalist Antoun Issa.

About the Book

Rebirth: A Love Story From the Depths of War tells the true story of Antoun Issa’s mother, Laila Khalil, and her journey through love, loss, war and migration.

Set in Beirut from 1974, the book follows Laila as her hopes for the future are upended by the outbreak of the Lebanese Civil War. Amid violence, tragedy and displacement, the possibility of migration to Australia offers the chance to begin again.

At once an intimate family story and a portrait of survival, Rebirth explores war, memory, migration, resilience and the meaning of home.
