About the Book

We Speak of Flowers by Eileen Chong is a tender poetry collection that explores themes of love, loss, identity, and belonging through the lens of diasporic experience. Rooted in both personal memory and collective cultural inheritance, the poems move between Australia, Singapore, and China, weaving together family histories, classical references, and the natural world. Chong’s evocative imagery—particularly of food, flowers, and seasonal change—becomes a language of connection across time and place. At its core, the collection speaks to the resilience of the human spirit and the quiet strength found in everyday rituals. With a voice that is both intimate and precise, Chong reflects on the complexity of heritage, home, and the ways we hold onto beauty in a fractured world.
