This June, join us for A Western Sydney Book Club as Michael Sun leads a conversation on No God But Us, the powerful debut novel by Bobuq Sayed.

About the Book

No God But Us is the novel from Bobuq Sayed, a writer, artist and community organiser whose work explores identity, faith, belonging and resistance. Richly imagined and deeply affecting, the novel offers a powerful reflection on community, queerness and the search for self in contemporary Australia.

About Bobuq Sayed

Bobuq Sayed is an Afghan-Australian writer, artist and community organiser. Their work explores themes of identity, faith, queerness and belonging, often centring the experiences of Muslim and migrant communities. Through writing and artistic practice, Sayed creates space for stories that challenge dominant narratives and celebrate the complexity of contemporary Australian life.

About Michael Sun

Michael Sun is a critic, essayist and curator from China and Australia. He is Film Programmer at the Art Gallery of NSW, and writes on film, music and literature for publications including The Guardian, Esquire, ABC Arts and Sydney Review of Books.
Michael will lead a discussion exploring the key themes and ideas in No God But Us.

A Western Sydney Book Club explores books by contemporary authors, with an initial focus on Australian writing.
Monthly conversations about books led by guest authors, for readers in and connected to Western Sydney.
