Join the GUL Collective in making fibre and textile artworks

March 11, 2026 12:00 pm

The GUL Collective is a collective of emerging artists working across various fibre and textile techniques including weaving, crochet, coiling, hand stitch and embroidery. The GUL Collective involves migrant women from diverse backgrounds working with visual artist Paula do Prado and program producer Yamane Fayed under the Multicultural Women’s Hub program at Arts & Cultural Exchange.

The GUL Collective is now on the lookout for more creative makers with a story to tell. If you are interested in exploring fibre and textile art and meeting like minded people in a safe and welcoming space, this is the perfect chance for you! To join the collective, please contact Yamane Fayed via email or phone: [email protected] / 02 8821 9155.

The GUL Collective meets weekly at ACE on Wednesdays between 10 am and 2 pm.
All materials will be provided, no prior experience required. This program is free of charge.

About the Collective

Much like its namesake (Gul means rose/flower in Hindi, Turkish and Farsi), the collective’s mission is to see artists in bloom. ACE Parramatta initiated this project under the Multicultural Women’s Hub, a program supporting women from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds in developing their creative skills and providing opportunities to grow their creative talent through the medium of art while encouraging all artistic practices combining traditional and contemporary art practices.
The Collective regularly hosts workshops, events and exhibitions where members create and tell stories inspired by their lived experience through the medium of art. In May 2025, the members of the collective showcased their artworks at Plant Stories in Thread, their first exhibition at the Royal Botanical Garden, celebrating the myriad forms of flora by artistically exploring the intersection of nature, lived experience and culture.
