Arts and Cultural Exchange (ACE) has long been a transformative force in the cultural landscape of Western Sydney, providing emerging artists with the opportunity to explore their creativity and share their voices with the world. We’re very excited to announce two wonderful First Nations artists joining our artist-in-residency program Still Growing: Natalie Snedden and Elina Roberts-Turner!
Early career Wiradjuri and Dunghutti artist Natalie Snedden’s work deeply reflects her connection to family and Country. With a lifelong passion for painting, her art embodies personal narratives that celebrate her cultural heritage. Currently in residence at Arts and Cultural Exchange (ACE), Natalie is being guided by esteemed mentors: Dharug artist, curator, and educator Jessica Tobin; Rebecca Ray, a Meriam Mer woman from the Torres Strait Islands and curator at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA); and Quandamooka woman Stephanie Parkins, an Intellectual Property Lawyer committed to advocating for the rights and cultural protocols of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Elina Roberts-Turner is a gifted Gamilaroi singer-songwriter making waves in the Western Sydney music scene. Recognised early on for her exceptional talent through programs like APRA AMCOS’s Songmakers and the Department of Education’s Talent Development Project, Elina has quickly established herself as a captivating performer. From gracing the stage at Penrith’s REAL Festival in 2023 to opening for P!nk at ACCOR Stadium in early 2024, her star is undeniably on the rise. Currently, Elina is honing her craft under the mentorship of the renowned Wiradjuri Ngunawal songwoman Amanda Davis aka The Dyagula. This collaboration marks a significant step in Elina’s artistic journey as she prepares to release her debut EP.
We can’t wait to see the profound growth and powerful work these artists develop with our First Nations producers Tannika Keaton and Akala Newman. Be sure to keep up to date with our First Nations program for more news on their artist residencies.
