A shared cultural space

The African Library and Cultural Centre is delivered in partnership with African Youth Initiative Centres, a community organisation working across Ghana and Australia to support young people through mentorship, education, and cultural arts programs.

Together, ACE and AYI Centres have created a space that centres cultural knowledge, storytelling, and lived experience, while remaining open and accessible to the wider community. The Centre functions as both a library and a cultural hub, designed for learning, exchange, and participation.

What the Centre offers

Visitors are invited to explore African-authored literature, engage with rotating exhibitions, and take part in hands-on cultural workshops.

Programs and activities include:

• Hair braiding workshops

• Beading workshops

• Storytelling sessions

• Language and cultural learning (in development)

• Rotating exhibitions exploring African histories and contemporary culture

The space is designed as a warm, welcoming environment where visitors can read, participate in workshops, or spend time engaging with the Centre at their own pace. Books are available for in-house reading only.

While grounded in African heritage and experience, the Centre is open to all: young people, families, and community members interested in cultural learning and exchange.
